Kaitlyn update: Hoping to get out of here today. Just waiting on 2 blood test. She woke up this morning with some stomach pain, leg, and foot pain. It just seems like the days all run together here, cant remember which day they did what. Kaitlyn has been seen by many teams of doctors.... 1) hematology/oncology 2) neurology 3) neuro-surgery 4) Renal (kidney) 5) cardio (heart) Friday, December 12, we were admitted to hospital. Wanted to keep an eye on the hole in her colon letting air in between the lining. They did a CT scan later that night to get better pictures. This showed that it was pretty invasive. They had her wait to eat, until they decided what they wanted to do. They decided on putting her on an all liquid diet and putting her on an antibiotic instead of doing surgery. We were glad they decided this instead of surgery, we really didnt what to put her through another surgery. Saturday, December 13, no test were done, but the Farley Fireman came down and gave all the kids a little Christmas. Thank you so much you put smiles on a lot of Kids faces. Bob, Kathy, Grandma & Grandpa Polfer came to visit. Also, Deb & Matt Harthan. Early Sunday morning, when Kaitlyn got up to go to the restroom, I noticed that her incision on her head had more puss in it and was leaking. I called the nurse and she called the neuro-surgery team. They consulted and decided to do surgery. At 11:00 she went in for surgery to clean the incision, checked the membrane openings, and checked to make sure none of the infection was getting into the brain. The surgery was 1 1/2 hours. Recovery took a little longer, since she didnt get much sleep the night before. She also had a lot of pain. The surgeon also said that the infection was contained just to the outer edge, but took cultures of it to see what grew. Uncle Dale and Rita Steffensmeier came to visit and Deb and Matt Harthan came back. Monday, December 16, 2014 The Kidney & heart doctors were in to see Kaitlyn. They said her blood pressure had been high for a couple of weeks so they wanted to start her on a low dose of medicine. Santa and Mrs. Claus came to visit the hospital and gave all the boys and girls many nice gifts. Kaitlyn was also on channel 9 news. Aunt Cathy ( Koppes) came down for an appointment and stopped up to visit. She ended up in the emergency room because of a seizure. It scared Kaitlyn a lot, so I made Cathy come back up and reassure her that she was OK. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 Kaitlyn had a Echo Cardigram to see if her heart was functioning OK. They look for thickness in the lining, to see if the heart has been working hard. They said they didnt see any signs of that. Said we could increase her diet to easy foods that would be easy to digest. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 Stopped the Dexamethasone ( steroid) so happy she is done with this. A lot of the problems she was having was because of this drug. Cultures came back in and said the bacteria on her head is normal bacteria that grows on the skin. At night her blood pressure was a little high, went up with blood pressure medicine. Was on 5 mg and now 10 mg. the doctors said she could probably be weened off this as time goes on. Kaitlyn had a pretty sleepy day. Thursday, December 18, 2014 Kaitlyn had another sleepy day. The doctor thought she had a lot going on, trying to get caught up. Just drew some blood for different test. Kaitlyn had another X-Ray of her stomach and the Doctor said it is looking better. Keep on easy to digest foods. Laura and Todd ( Lumpy) Kluesner stopped for a visit. After Kaitlyn got done with her x-Ray, child life asked Kaitlyn if she wanted to go shopping for her family in the hospital, at first she didnt want to, but when she got into the room her eyes just lite up. Friday, December 18, 2014 All blood levels look good. The doctor said that her calcium level was low and that can contribute to some leg pain. Waiting on the word if we are going home... Kaitlyn ( Al and I) are ready to get out of here!!! We will not continue on chemo pill until after the first of the year. The doctors want her to heal as much as possible before starting that. Please pray that she continues to heal and to make her wish come true...that soon she will be in remission. Also pray for Al and I to have patience as we continue this journey with her.
