Kakamega formerly a province, now a county,is located in the western part of Kenya and boasts of quite amazing stories. It is the region where people enjoy watching bulls fighting and also have ability to and experience in coaxing cocks into a fight. The only region where people eat flying insects’ indigenously known as “tsiswa”. Also, the region where a few years ago one man earned himself fame for practically devouring 5kg of “Ugali kwa yai moja”. Kakamega is a region rich in culture, you can think of the famous Traditional drum “Isukuti”, “Omutibo” and such. Confidently, in Kenya, I won’t be wrong for claiming that Kakamega forest is the home for staggering species of butterflies and snakes. The forest is painted in green and coloured colours of butterflies you don’t even know exists. Interestingly, the name “KAKAMEGA” if am right was a white man’s invention, coined from luhya word “Khakhameka”, (the word is associated with eating ugali) Forget about history and all the stories you’ve just read about Kakamega. We are going to talk about the “crying stone” The crying stone, cries literally. It’s located at a place called Ilesi and is visible even from the road, which is the main Kisumu- Kakamega highway. This stone is about 40m high and has a figure acting like a head where water flows from. This stone, like all ancient things associated with Africans was used as a shrine when conducting religious ceremonies. Mixing art and culture The image of this crying stone standing in its full glory harmonizes everything that has to do with nature. Think of making an oil painting on canvas which can be hanged as a decoration for your home decor. The effect will be just amazing.
