Kalinga Studio set for Rs 2.5cr makeover ================================= Once a hub of filmmakers, the Kalinga Studio here will get a facelift soon. The state government has decided to provide financial assistance to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore during this financial year for development of Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC) and the studio, said industries minister Debi Prasad Mishra.He said the government has planned to spend Rs 50 lakh on a priority basis for repair of a village complex in the studio taking into account urgent need of film and Doordarshan producers. Besides, the government would take up a few more development works in the studio. They include repair of compound wall and cottages and houses on the studio premises apart from developing lawn and garden.The minister also hinted that the government is considering either to privatize or run the studio in joint venture. This studio, spread over 25 acre, was established in 1982 with support from Prasad Labs, Chennai. It is now managed by OFDC. Over the years, the studio was left unattended and lack of maintenance took its toll on it. It did not found favour with filmmakers. The video unit of the studio was demolished four years ago and the equipment were left abandoned. Cameras were decaying because of exposure to moisture, rust and insects, alleged an Odia filmmaker.Many film personalities have welcomed the governments move. They hoped that once the studio is renovated, Odia filmmakers, who keep on going to locales in south India for shoots, will be spared of the incovenience. No doubt this is a welcoming step, said noted film director Basanta Sahu. Ollywood film star and BJD legislator Akash Das Nayak said he had urged chief minister Naveen Patnaik to make the studio more attractive by adding a museum on the campus. OFDC chairman Munna Khan sought another Rs 2.5 for studios face-lift.
