Kami asks My son is almost 6 and is high functioning on the spectrum. When he has meltdowns, he is very aggressive towards me, hitting, slapping, pushing, kicking me, etc. I dont know how to handle it when this happens because he is so out of control that there is no reasoning. I try to put him in his room but he will not stay in there. At the same time I dont want to leave him alone when hes in such a vulnerable state. I would love some advice on how to handle this aggression during a meltdown because he needs to know that its NEVER okay to hit mom (or anyone else), even if he is feeling angry and out of control.
