Kanaka Open mic Dont forget to visit Kanaka Open mic this Wednesday July 27th. A lovely way to spend a summers evening, live music, poetry, fun! youtu.be/P3cPDbcRb8w I have just come back from a trip to the UK, while I was there I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Robin Williams. Robins portrayal of English teacher John Keating in the 1989 movie Dead Poets Society left a huge impression on me in my early twenties. He captured the essence of a character who sees the passion and poetry in life, a person who inspires others to follow their inspirations, no matter how non-conformist or different. To see beyond a humdrum treadmill that can so easily be unwittingly trodden day in, day out. A life without examination! The character of John Keating was based on a real teacher and although Robin did not write the words, he lived a life somewhat resonant to the character that he so brilliantly played. He took the road less traveled and inspired many on his journey! I have added a video of my favourite speech from Dead Poets Society delivered with such passion and eloquence by our very own lovely and sorely missed Robin Williams. May he rest in peace. You can find us every Wednesday, 5pm - 7.30pm at Kanaka Creek Coffee, #101-24155 102nd Avenue, Maple Ridge, (left at 240th/Lougheed, right on 102nd) Maple Ridge. Tel: 604 463 6727 Thinking about the importance of enjoying the moment! Hugs, Pam XX “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.” - Robin Williams
