Jiangsus 558-kilometre Lianyungang-Shanghai ship channel completed THE entire Lianyungang-Shanghai navigation channel, the second north-south water transport route after Beijing-Hangzhou Canal in southern Jiangsu province, with 1,000-tonne capacity, has been completed, reports Xinhua. The 558-kilometre channel from at Lianyungang city in the north, and passes through three cities, Lianyungang, Yancheng and Nantong before reaching Shanghai. It is one of the major trunk navigational channel projects the province plans to launch and the high-grade waterway in the Yangtze River Delta High-grade Waterway Network Plan, said the Jiangsu Provincial Navigational Channel Bureau. Its operation will further enhance competitiveness of coastal ports in Jiangsu and promote the mutual development of coastal and regional economy.
