Kandy beat foreigners less CH & FC by 71 - 05 in a one sided encounter. Arshad Jamaldeen had the best boots of the season for Kandy and he kicked like a young Nalaka Weerakkodi. We have to wait and see how good he is in putting drop goals. After many years, Kandy finally found a reliable kicker as Arshad converted 8 of the 11 tries. One of his kicks hit the post and the last one was for his own try, thus he did not put that much effort to kike the ball perfectly. He cleared good distances in penalty clearances. If he can play as a full back too, that will be really good. It was nice to see Layya, Shehan Dimitri and Wili were playing almost full time. ExceptJawa and Ouma, the other forwards had taken the game easy and they did not go harder, possibly, the wise decision to avoid getting injured an an easy game. This resulted CH winning few of our ruck balls and even CH was able to score a 5m push over try. Saliya, who came in to the game at the last stages had a good break and nice side step run too. Danush had a good game and he had a bad accident too. Well, our new foreign player Koto Pongi had his first game, he was huge, he may need another game to settle with the team as Chris too took couple of matches to settle with the team. He he was too much for CH guys. When he was tackled with the ball, e did not try to go down and place the ball, but try to stand on his feet and pass the ball, it resulted loosing some balls. We have a good team, I hope Nigel Ratwatte, Gayan, Fazil and Chris would back for the big games of the 2nd round. We have to accommodate Arshad in the playing 15 as his kicking is vital. My player of the match is Arshad Jamaldeen. We have completed the first round as table leaders.
