Kannyakumari (the sleeping Innovation) District: 1. The resources and potential of KK The 100 + Higher Education Institutions in Kannyakumari District is just sleeping with our innovative power. If we can list our resources (labs, instruments, intellectual manpower) and bring to a common place for discussion, at least 50 teams can be formed in different areas of Science and Technology to carry out projects of International Standards. We can in collaboration with European counter parts submit project proposals to HORIZON2020 the 70 Billion Euros research funding programme of European Commission going to be in operation from 2014 -2020. We can bring in Venture capital funding. We can innovate and come out with products of world standards. I am established as a FOCAL POINT for HORIZON 2020 in India to foster Indo-EU collaborations. One of my longing is to make Kannyakumari as an Innovation District. If we pool our resource, research into many challenging areas can be done. To give example, challenging projects would be - a car battery which can run for 500 kms in a single charge, a paint on vehicle which can convert solar energy to electrical energy, a mega device to convert wave power to electric power, a device (fitted in exhaust) which sucks the smoke and converts into powder and stores in a container, a potent biopesticide, etc etc. At International Centre for Nanobiotechnology (ICN), MS University, my research team of 6 Ph.d students with former Ph.D students are working on Drug Discovery for the past five years and in a year we are expecting to come with productive results. Through operating two training programmes, i was able to bring young scientists and Postdoctoral scholars from 17 countries (USA, France, Germany, Spain, UK, Denmark, Brazil, Russia, Israel, Turkey, South Africa, Australia, Mexico, Austria, Switzerland, Nepal & Hungary) to give them training in DNA Microarray in a small village of Rajakamangalam, KK Dist and put that in the world map of Nanobiotechnology. If we start planning and implementing, then in a decades time we can see that many hitech industries will make their footing in KK Dist. Many of of young Engineers/Biotechs will start companies in KK Dist. Our best manpower will be retained in this beautiful district and we will make out impact in Nation building and may be, could be a model district in whole of India. Interested persons are welcome to link with me in LinkedIn(linkedIn mail- prakash.icn@gmail)- and Facebook, so that we start discussing and working. Do share this message to the maximum extent, so that we can start working on this. Thankx - Dr. Prakash Vincent
