Kano Gubernatorial Aspirants By Adnan Mukhtar Adam The race is between two major political parties in Kano, APC and PDP all other aspirants that are not aspiring within this parties are considered not serious and they have no possible chances of winning the election. For APC we have deputy minority leader of the house Sulaiman Abdurahman Kawu sumaila who is considered as a strong figure in the race, he has the resources of winning primaries but is not following the process of wooing delegates to his side, he failed in doing so, the tactics he is using is that of secondary election, another problem is that they are not in good time with governor Kwankwaso, he is seen always criticizing the leader of the kwankwasiyya movement who is the current governor of Kano, the kwankwasiyya has the largest number of people in the APC having 60% of followers, while the rest of the legacy parties shared the remaining 40%, the politics of Nigeria is characterized by godfatherism, Kawu is experiencing the problem of not having a godfather and the adherents of kwankwasiyya have promised to defeat him in the primaries, he has soon purchased his nomination and expression of interest form, this clearly shows how serious he is in the race for the No 1 seat in Kano Another aspirant in the race is the state deputy governor Dr Abdullahi Ganduje who has a strong support from the delegates of both kwankwasiyya and the legacy parties of APC, he is seen as the most loyal deputy governor to his boss but the boss has since asked him to withdraw from the race, to pave way for a young person, the deputy governor is 64 and if he will contest in the primaries he will definitely win, majority of top politicians of APC are with him, elders of Kano state are said to be supporting his candidature, Ganduje is yet to purchase the expression of interest and nomination form, his people are urging him to do so but he is silent over it, if giving the ticket of the party, he will definitely defeat the candidate of the PDP, he has the sympathy of the people, he has been loyal to Kwankwaso since 1999, he is intelligent and hardworking, he backs a PhD from the university of Ibadan, a very eloquent personality. Another aspirant in the party is Usman Alhaji a former commissioner of education under kwankwasos first tenure before they parted ways, he is not seen wearing red cap, he is serious more especially on the media and the local government tour he made, he is yet to purchase the nomination form, he is also experiencing the problem of resources. Kabiru Gaya a former governor and serving senator from Kano south, he is yet to purchase the form and that clearly shows how unserious he is in the race, some analyst perceived his gubernatorial ambition as a way of retaining his seat as senator in 2015. Arch Aminu Abubakar Dabo its just last 2 years that he finished serving his jail term in kiri kiri, a former MD of the Nigerian Ports Authority and commissioner of land is also among those aspiring for the number one seat in Kano, his posters are seen everywhere in Kano metropolitan, his jailing could serve as an obstacle for him as he is been seen as a looter by the good people of kano. Engr Muazu Magaji Dawakin Tofa he is seen by some analyst as the anointed successor of Kwankwaso, he resigned from sure-p immediately after Kwankwaso defected to APC this shows how loyal he is to the governor, a graduate of mechanical engineering from bayero university Kano. Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi and Ahmed Garba Bichi are waiting for the command of Kwankwaso of whether to contest or not and for PDP it has people like Salihu Sagir Takai, Dr Akilu Indabawa, Muhammad Abacha, Abba Risqua Murtala Muhammad, Comrade Hadi kawata, Engr Bello Sani Gwarzo and Engr Mansur Ahmed have since purchased their expression of interest and nomination form with the exception of Hadi Kawata and Engr Mansur Ahmed, the possible man to win primaries among them is Takai who contested in 2011 under the platform of ANPP, he got more than a million votes, he has the support of the party leadership and the back up of former governor and minister of education Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, a former chairman Takai local government, former commissioner of water resources, agriculture and local government, he backs HND in public administration from Kano state polytechnic some beloved that Aminu wali the minister of foreign affairs is supporting his candidature. Abba Risqua Murtala Muhammad he is a former special assistant to chief Olusegun Obasanjo on international relations, a son of former military president Murtala Muhammad, he is seen as a serious aspirant but lack the support of delegates, some criticized him of not speaking Hausa fluently, he has the resources to contest. Dr Akilu Indabawa A former university leturer, former special adviser to president Jonathan on political matters and a former National youth leader of the PDP, he served as the Asst sec proceedings of the recent concluded National conference, he lacks the support of the grassroots. Muhammad Abacha Son of former .military dictator, he has never hold any political office in his life, some considered him as lazy that always go far from the common man, he dont like people, some analyst believed that he is contesting for just to get national relevance in the country. Engr Bello Sani Gwarzo A civil engineer and former executive secretary of Kano Guidance and counselling board during shekaraus administration, he has since consulted party leaders at local and state level, he is very much serious about his aspiration, he has resources but cannot be compared With that of Abacha Risqua and indabawa. to be sincere in PDP Takai has the possible chance of winning the primaries as for the APC the anointed successor of Kwankwaso will definitely win the primaries which will automatically raised a dust in the party.
