Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and PSM wrestle over dues - 22 Aug 2013 Pakistan Observer reported that Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, MD Mr Misbahuddin Farid said that the Pakistan Steel Mills was not taking steps for the settlement of outstanding dues amounting to RS 480 millions. The MD also alleged the PSM of sale of water being supplied to the mills. In this regard, the MD had asked the deputy MD to formulate an effective policy in this regard. KW&SB has speed up the recovery process from Government Institutions on the directives of Minister Local Bodies and KW&SB Chairman Mr Syed Owais Muzaffar. The MD said that the PSM had been delaying KW&SB payments for past 5 months despite the fact that KW&SB provided the PSM water on special rates for Industrial Consumers. On the other hand, the PSM was practically closed down but was still taking the same amount of water as before and selling this water to different Industrial Units, which was neither legally nor morally right. The water supplied to the PSM could be provided to citizens living in residential areas around the PSM to overcome water shortage. The MD said that the KW&SB was facing financial crisis and did not have enough funds to disburse salaries to the employees and in that case, the PSM would be responsible for the crises and KW&SB would face severe troubles in provision of services to more than 30 million residents of Karachi.
