Karla Duitsmann Hopkins was the 1st person tae take the Wounded Warrior Challenge and post aboot it on her wall. It will nae let me share it so Ive copied and pasted it fer yer - Read all aboot it below and try it if yer brave enough ;) ********************************************************************************** *Please Read - Wounded Warrior Challenge Experience - Thanks Bunches :)* A friend, Scott Mckinley Author/Cover Model, is having a charity auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Donations will also be made to the ASPCA & St. Judes Children Hospital. If you dont want to bid on anything there is a Crowdrise site for donations. Along with the auction he included a challenge to experience what itd be like to live as if youre missing a limb, like a lot of wounded warriors. I accepted the challenge and got my daughters old crutches out of the shed on Friday night. My goal was to be on crutches and use only one leg all weekend. Needless to say I didnt make it that long. Saturday morning started out okay...getting out of bed and letting the dogs outside. Then I went to shower and it was not working as planned. So, I decided to give this more thought and begin the challenge again in the afternoon. Unfortunately someone with a real disability wouldnt be able to do this. At around 2:30 pm I started again when a friend and I went to lunch. And surprisingly I lasted until around 2:13 pm on Sunday. It was definitely not an easy challenge and here are the difficulties I had during that time. - Using crutches in general is not easy, my upper arms and underarms are sore and its exhausting. - Taking a shower was not possible for me and trying to get out of the bathtub using one leg was too hard. - Getting off the toilet without a handicap bar was a wee bit more difficult than getting on it. - Driving a stick shift, what I drive, cannot be done with one leg. I had to temporarily stop the challenge to drive home after lunch. - Bringing in my leftover box and a drink from the car into the house. I could only use one crutch and there was a lot of hopping involved. - Feeding my dogs was easier than getting them water. I used a pitcher and filled it half full so I wouldnt spill the water hobbling on 1 crutch. It took me two trips to fill the bowls. - Having a bed on 7 bed risers and a pillow top mattress is not a good idea. Took a little extra time getting into bed. - Fixing breakfast wasnt too hard since my kitchen is literally the size of a closet. But getting the food from there to where I eat was going to be too hard so I just stood and ate at the kitchen counter. - It took me 5 trips to fill the washer for 1 load of laundry. - I did not attempt any basic cleaning or sweeping the floor because it would either be too difficult of not possible. One thing I found when I was at lunch was there are more people who arent willing to help (rude) than are. I had 2 couples offer to open the door and step to aside. The rest of the people waiting I had to maneuver around and they just starred! I have to say doing this challenge really opened my eyes more. I have a better understanding of what people with a limitation go through. I CHALLENGE all my friends and family, if youve never been without the use of a limb, to do this. If you dont want to use crutches or a wheelchair then try putting your arm in a sling and going about your day. If you choose to take on this challenge please post about your experience. kilteddesire/auction.html
