Karna is a beautiful character – Aham Sharma Aham Sharma ,the majestic and handsome Karna of Star Plus’s Mahabharat which is produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary under Sawatik Productions shares his views on character and his working on the epic saga. Find out more about this hottie in this unplugged candid chat with Just Showbiz. Excerpts: Karna is very important character of Mahabharat .It is very different character with his own conflicts in mind. How did you prepare yourself for Karna? USP of this character for an actor is that while portraying Karna ,actor gets to play lot of shades. At one end he is this mean guy who called Draupadi a Vaishya and on the other end he is someone who donates his kavach and Kundal by ripping his body .So he is totally opposite at time .He is rigid and religious. He has devoted himself to duryodhana and is willing to go to any extent. He is multilayered character and gives so much scope to portray every possible emotion. That was biggest attraction for me to work as Karna. Do you think Karna is negative character? I don’t think Mahabharat characters can be looked as negative and positive. Even duryodhan cannot be negative at times with his viewpoint. He thinks his father was a king so he is true heir and this kingdom belongs to him. This is about Point of views. So we should not judge characters as positive and negative. I give high regards to character of Karna .Basically you can call him a human with certain flaws, an edgy attitude. Circumstances were such in his life, imagine a kid who was abandoned by his mother after birth, throughout his life he had to struggle to achieve anything, Nobody was willing to teach him archery which was his passion since he was of low caste. Imagine his agony ,pain he must have gone through. He was refused by Draupadi saying he belonged to low caste. So he calls her vaishya in his impulsive behavior which he regretted later in many books it is mentioned. I won’t defend his character but he did have some flaws. Same character who called Draupadi vaishya also at same time was religious and would do anything to protect his dharma. This edgy attitude of character is what more appealing to me. How was it working with Siddharth Kumar Tewari of Swastik Productions? Phenomenal .He is guy who lived all the characters of Mahabharat. You ask him any question on any character of Mahabharat, he knows all the answer. He is very accessible. Which is your favorite scene of Karna in Mahabharat? Karna is a beautiful character that I loved doing all scenes. But I love Arena scene that I entered with was beautiful, the scene shot with Guru Parshuram, Classic scene when Karna goes to meet Kunti Maata. Apart from that I loved all scenes with Radha Ma who brought karna up. For all scenes credit goes to writers and Creatives who crafted so well. If you asked me just one, then I would love Arena Scene when he comes to challenge everyone to accept me as who I am.,accept me for my talent rather than caste and creed. Mahabharat is an epic. Have you read it before you decided to take up Karna? When I decided to take it up, I read many books associated with it. I read Mrityunjay because I wanted to know more about Karna , that helped me a lot. Then I needed to know Mahabharat completely so I read Geeta Press and Jaya translations of Mahabharat. I read many things online as well. How is Aham Sharma in person? Well that’s something other people can judge. I would like to believe I am genuine honest guy who wants to achieve his goals. I love to go out with my close friends. Primarily I am focused to achieve what I have to achieve in life. Who are your buddies on sets? Almost all of them. Its rare that we have a show where so many people are of same age group So it is like we are hanging around in college campus. But Primarily most of my scenes are with Kauravas so yeah I do get along with Duryodhana, shakuni and Dushasan and in that too I am most of time with duryodhana so we get along very well. It is very healthy atmosphere. What is your favorite pastime? Horse Riding. When I started this show, I didn’t know it all and to my shock my first sequence on horse was when I had to rescue Duryodhana, Shakuni and Dushasan. I had to enter with horse using both hands in firing arrows. That was day I knew I have to learn it.Now I have developed it as hobby, I love it . Have you ever faced comparison with old Mahabharat Karna? Yes it’s pretty obvious. Even before when I had decided to take up Karna, people had asked me how you would take the pressure of comparison with such cult characters. It is very simple thing. I have been offered this role and I would do it my way. It basically how the Creatives and directors have crafted this show. If you see it is different from previous one. I have said that I will do the way I have decided and comparisons are bound to happen but I will be focused on how well I can portray my part. Any other projects getting your attention? Yes talks are on .But since I am committed to Mahabharat for few more weeks so I can’t talk about other projects right now. Let’s see what comes my way, will try to do my best. You recently won the award for Karna’s character. How does it feel? It feels great to see your hard work being recognized. It gives you satisfaction .It is recognition that you are doing well. Tell us something about yourself. I belong to small place called Palampur in Bihar. It’s been nice journey till now. Your message to fans who love Karna Karna is fantastic character and many people love this character. There are many things which we can learn from it like giving. Like he always used to give happily without expecting anything in return. If we adopt such thing, we can bring lot of change in the society. Help the needy .This is something we can always take it from him. Other was his attitude of never give up. Keep fighting till you achieve. That’s why people are madly in love with Karna, they consider him true hero. ~Sreya :)
