Karnal: Probability of Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh - TopicsExpress

Karnal: Probability of Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda contesting the upcoming elections from any one of the assembly segments of Karnal district has become the talk of the town. Sources in the Congress said there was pressure on the CM to prove his mettle as he faced allegations of being restricted to his home district, Rohtak, for initiating development and big projects. Congress insiders said the possibility of Hooda being fielded either from Indri or Assandh was being discussed at the highest level in the party as it was perceived that such a move would override the general belief that development had remained restricted to Rohtak. The speculation gained currency with Hooda not ruling out the possibility while interacting with mediapersons in Chandigarh on Tuesday. I will follow the high commands order and would certainly contest from two places if it wishes so, he said. Without dismissing the speculation, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) chief Ashok Tanwar said, It is the prerogative of the party central leadership to decide on such issues. Sources said Karnal MLA Sumita Singh had been asked to file papers from Assandh. Sumita told TOI that she had applied for ticket from Karnal, but did not rule out the likelihood of her following the directions of the party high command. Meanwhile, addressing a rally in Indri, Hooda had stated that he might contest from there. Sources said Hooda could benefit from the huge population of Sikhs in Assandh, following the state governments decision to form the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) after getting the legislation passed to that effect in the assembly. Haryana Sikhs, who had been demanding a separate body to manage their shrines, were likely to support the CM if he were fielded from any one of the assembly segments of Karnal.
