Karnataka Nair Service Society bags award by Shyama Krishna Kumar Bangalore: The Akshaya Pusthaka Nidhi National Award has been conferred upon the Karnataka Nair Service Society (KNNS), for the invaluable services it has extended to Malayalees from different walks of life. The award consisting of a Stamp of Honour, plaque and citation will be bestowed upon the recipients in a function to be held on December 1 at Sindhi Seva Samiti Auditorium, Hebbal. The chief guests at the event are T K A Nair, advisor to the Prime Minister; K J George, Minister for Home; Krishna Byre Gowda, Minister for Agriculture; M Loganathan, MD, Global Homes and Developers; Vishwanathan Venniyil, president, Globall NSS; and Payipra Radhakrishnan, president, Akshaya Pusthaka Nidhi. Apart from conferring the award, the event will also see the grand finale of the Talent Search 2013 and the presentation of Kalathilakam, Kalapratibha and Rolling Trophy. “The main aim of the talent search is to promote art and culture within the younger generations of our society. We held various competitions at 32 units, all over Karnataka, which included various dance forms, music, art and even a cooking competition for children. The finalists from all the 32 karmayogams or units had a final showdown over the course of five days. The winners from the finals will perform on December 1 at Sindhi Seva Samiti. It will be very exciting, watching these young ones showcase their talent,” P Krishnan Nambiar, convenor, KNSS told City Express. KNSS was founded in 1982 with a view to bring the Nair community in Karnataka together. It has under it 33 units spread over the state, with more than 14,000 families under it. The major services rendered by the association include educational institutions, co-operative banks, matrimonial centres, benevolent funds, housing schemes, helpline services and much more. The Akshaya Pusthaka Nidhi National Award was instituted with the intention to impart knowledge to destitute children, in honour of professor NP Manmadhan. It is now being led by Mahakavi Akkithom, Sugathakumari, Dr M Leelavathy and Payipra Radhakrishnan. Fact File Social Activist and Founder-Secretary of Spandhana and also the member of KNSS, Mysore, Malini (Nirmala Devi) was conferred with the state award of ‘Distinguished Social Worker’. The award was given on November 14 at Balabhavan by Umashree, Women and Child Development Minister in the presence of Governor Hansraj Bharadwaj and Primary and Higher Education Minister Kimmane Rathakar, during the State level ‘Children’s Day’ celebration organised by Women and Child Development ministry, State Education ministry and Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare. She was conferred the award for her contributions from the past decade towards the empowerment of underprivileged women and children, protecting the rights of women, her work towards eradication of child labour and community development. epaper.newindianexpress/c/1985517
