Karnataka community celebrates Independence Day on cruise................ JEDDAH — Community members from Karnataka, India here celebrated their country’s 68th Independence Day on board a cruise at North Abhur recently. Around 200 members of Karnataka NRI Forum (KNRI Forum) - Jeddah chapter, including families and children attended the event. KNRI Forum is a social organization from the southern Indian state of Karnataka that strives to help less fortunate people in Karnataka, and also help needy Kannadigas her in coordination with the Indian Consulate. The program started with national anthem followed by a welcome speech, which was delivered by Cultural Secretary Mohammed Saifuddin Sami. Sami appreciated the enthusiasm of Kannadigas on celebrating Independence Day. Addressing the gathering, General Secretary of KNRI Forum Syed Nasir Khursheed congratulated all Kannadigas on the auspicious occasion of Independence day. He highlighted the aims and objectives of the forum and requested members to participate actively in the charitable activities of the forum. Vice president of KNRI Forum Manzoor Ahmed remembered the freedom fighters. He said: We feel proud as the first freedom fighter was from Karnataka who is remembered as ‘Tiger of Mysore Tipu Sultan.’ Chief Guest Vishwanath Karkara, a prominent social worker, and President Roshan Rodrigues appreciated the activities of the KNRI Forum and congratulated all the team members for their efforts in organizing the Independence Day celebration. Rodrigues expressed deep sense of appreciation toward the sports committee as they have planned to organize cricket tournaments shortly here under the Vice President Sabu Chandra. He also appreciated patronage of Vishwanath Hegde for his continuous support to the forum. He informed audience about his representation from KNRI Forum with Education Minister Government of Karnataka regarding inclusion of NRI students for appearing in a common entrance test to get into professional courses, which was greatly applauded by the audience. Children enjoyed the games and sports organized for them on the upper deck, which was conducted by Praveen Netrekar, Faizan Ahmed and Sheezan Ahmed. The event became melodious when the cultural team started the singing session. The session started with the title song of Gandha da Gudi sung by Joint Cultural Secretary Mohammed Kalim in Kannada. He also lent his voice to suno na sange mar mar ki minaarein from Youngistan. All time favorite song Mera Juta hai japani patloon inglistaani from Shree 420 was sung by Sami. Chinta ta chita chita from Rawdi Rathore was sung by Joint Cultural Secretary Mohsin Khan, and on request he also sang Tere Maasoom sawalon se pareshaan hoon main from Masoom. Nidhi Kharvi and Kaleem also sang a duet chikni kamar pe teri mera dil phisal gaya from Rawdi Rathore, afterwhich Kharvi and Mohammed Saifuddin sang sari ke falsa. On popular demand, Rodrigues sang Zindagi ek safar hai suhaana. Treasurer of KNRI Forum Sri Harsha said: I enjoyed lot while celebrating the Independence Day as this event takes me to college days where we use to have lot of fun after flag hoisting. Joint Secretary of the forum Yashwanth Amin said: These events will refresh us as we all are always busy with job assignments. Aijaz Ahmed Meeting, oordinator of the forum, said: Its a great feeling celebrating Independence Day out of our country but still I miss these ceremonies which we use to celebrate at homeland. Syed Haseebuddin, joint treasurer, said: I feel proud to be part of this KNRI family which gives essence of our homeland. Mukaram Khan, membership coordinator, said: Education is an important tool for building exemplary character among society and KNRI Forum is doing a great job by encouraging and helping poor students in the field of education. He requested all the Kannadigas residing in Jeddah to join the KNRI Forum and strengthen it. Praveen Netrekar, joint cultural secretary, said: As photography is my passion I like this idea of celebrating Independence Day on a cruise with beautiful scene around it. Sports secretary of the forum Peter Mascarenhas said: Every day we learn in our life and it was great experience creating environment of land on sea as sports also was conducted on cruise. Syed Shakeel Ahmed, executive member of the forum, said: When we mingle with Kannadigas here in Jeddah I feel as if I am in Bangalore. Ilyas Momin, executive member of the forum, said: It was a wonderful experience for me being part of KNRI Forum as this is my first year in this organization. Imtiaz Ahmed, executive member, said arrangements for the event were well planned and completed as per schedule. He also appreciated the quality of food served. Mohammed Arif, executive member, said: If we have such programs it will be a good platform of interaction and new ideas can be generated to work more effectively for charitable activities. Mohammed Saheb, executive member of the forum, said: We are expatriates here in kingdom and if we celebrate such programs here we can remember to those who were martyred during the freedom struggle. Faizee Sheikh, executive member of the forum, said: I found KNRI Forum as true symbol of Integrity in diversity. Niaz Ahmed, press secretary of the forum, conducted the program and the quiz competition. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Kaleem in which he appreciated the presence of Karkera and the live audience.
