Karyn Rotker and Thomas J. Mertz made me aware of this and it is a great read. What we have here folks is a Milwaukee area company that is throwing its rather substantial weight behind its public schools .... something well worth celebrating and rewarding. First of all, Penzeys sells a top of the line product ..... in itself a reason to support them. Second, the owner of the spice company wrote a column -- in its sales catalog -- taking to task those who advocate slashing funding to inner city schools to give suburbanites an $18 refund in their property taxes and [p]romoting [racism] for AM radio advertising profits. He goes on to say that We must leave no doubt that holding back our compassion based on someone’s health, the color of their skin or their economic standing is totally at odds with everything we are. That is a rock star capitalist. Boycotts work some times. A better idea is to shop for Penzeys spices. Go online to the companys website (penzeys/) and tell them you went out of your way to buy their products because of their quality and the companys support for public education in Milwaukee. Stop by the Penzeys store in suburban Milwaukee and tell them you appreciate their support. We dont have enough money to buy the legislators that ultra-destructive right does. We do, however, have people -- including successful businesses -- on our side.
