Kasese Muslims petition Kayihura over death threats By Enid Ninsiima The rival Muslim leaders counter-allege that Migdad wants to kill them and take the properties which they claim belong to Muslims. Kasese- Rival Muslim factions in Kasese District have petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, to investigate alleged security threats against some of their leaders. Saad Migdad, a member of the Saad family has petitioned Gen Kayihura alleging that there are some Muslim leaders in the district who are threatening their lives. Kasese District Kadhi Sheikh Abdul Hakim Mugisha and Saad Migdad, the administrator of Saad Foundation Trust have been embroiled in property wrangles. Migdad claims that a section of Kasese Muslim leaders led by Mugisha were plotting to kill him in order to grab the properties that were left behind by his father Saad Bin Saidi. The rival Muslim leaders counter-allege that Migdad wants to kill them and take the properties which they claim belong to Muslims. Migdad’s lawyers Guma and Company Advocates on January 6 wrote to Gen Kayihura accusing Kadhi Mugisha and Saad Islamic School whose property is being claimed by both the Saad family and Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. The letter alleges that Sheikh Mugisha and agents of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council in Kasese have been threatening the Saad family to drop the cases in court. Migdad claims there have been two attempts on his life in Kasese, Kampala and Fort Portal. “Our client is insecure and has been receiving threats to stop pursuing the cases before court so that the property of Saad Foundation Trust can be taken by these Muslim clerics,” the petition reads in part. “Why should we kill Migdad Saad? It is not our culture to kill our opponents. His father gave the biggest contribution to the Muslim community but that does not give him the rightful ownership of Muslim projects,” said Sheikh Mugisha. He said Migdad is not claiming only Saad Islamic School but also other Muslim properties in Kasese, including Saad Secondary School and Kasese Muslim Health Centre. Sheikh Mugisha said he had informed the district police commander about Migdad’s letter and vowed to defend the properties which he claimed belong to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. [email protected]
