Kasese district local government has laid shs 4.6b budget estimates for 2014/2015 financial year with focus eradicating poverty through improved crop yields. In the budget estimates presented to council on Thursday, the Secretary for Finance and Planning Mr.MatayoMusale said that in the next financial year, the district intends to use the funds from Luwero-Rwenzori triangle to establish mini irrigation schemes on River Kanyambara and River Bukangara in Munkunyu and Nyakiyumbu sub-counties respectively. Mr.Musale said that the plan to have more mini irrigation schemes has been derived from the successes of the Shs 105m Muhokya Mini Irrigation scheme that was constructed with support from Belgium Technical Corporation in 2012. Other areas of agriculture that will benefit from the proposed budget also include animal husbandry where two valley dams will be established in grazing areas of Bigando and Nyakatonzi. The district councillor for Munkunyu sub-county Mr. John Muhasa described the budget as “ a hope for the future” because the farmers have been losing seasons to the drought in the district”. END
