Kashmir University to get new VC by end of August Srinagar: The search committee for appointment of the Kashmir University Vice-Chancellor that has been constituted under the chairmanship of Prof Goverdhan Mehta, National Research Professor at the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad is all set to appoint new VC by the end of August this year. Official sources said that more than 40 applications have been received by Registrar University so far for the post but before taking any final call, the Search Committee is mulling to arrive here next month to deliberate with the representatives of teachers (KUTA) ,non –teaching (KUMSA),officials (KUOA),research scholars and students and other academicians. A Professor of social science faculty said, on condition of anonymity, that the purpose of holding interactions is to get feedback from all the stakeholders of Varsity before they will short list the probable candidates. “After interactions they will short list applicants and will held meeting of search committee at New Delhi and can held interactions with short listed candidates,” he said. The Search Committee constituted by Chancellor N.N.Vohra is headed by Prof Goverdhan Mehta has two other members who are Prof A M Pathan former VC Maulana Azad National Urdu University MANU and Prof M.M Solanki renowned professor of chemistry. Sources said that the the Chancellor’s office seeks to expedite the process of selection of VC in “short span of time” before Model Code of Conduct comes into effect ahead of the State Legislative Assembly polls. A circular undersigned by Registrar KU on behalf of the three-member search committee had sought applications from the candidates for the coveted post while the last date for submission of nomination was July 17 and all the nominations were collected by Registrar of the university. More than 40 nominations were received by the varsity authorities including local and non-locals, sources revealed to CNS that some eminent non-local scientists have also applied for this coveted post. Sources said that by third week of August Varsity will get new V C. (CNS)
