Kashmir lawmaker flays police over ‘misleading spending’ on his security. A lawmaker in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday accused the government of showing incorrect figures as a part of his expenditure for security purpose. Coming down heavily on police for maligning his image, MLA, Langate, Abdul Rashid, expressed shock over the figures provided by State Home Department showing expenditure drawn by him through the state exchequer for security purposes. Rashid refuted receiving any fuel or cash for his personal or security vehicle during last three years. “It is unfortunate on part of the police to claim that I received an amount of Rs 2,83,272 for fuel purposes during the last three years while the fact is that I am without security and not a single government employee is at my dispense,” he said. The independent lawmaker from remote north Kashmir region questioned how “officers in the police dared to mislead everybody”. He alleged: the amount would have gone in the pockets of those people who run the state like a public enterprise and leave no opportunity to loot the state exchequer. He appealed top officials of the home department to investigate the matter thoroughly and come clean on the issue. “From time to time Home and Police Department urged me to avail security as well as a bullet proof car. However I always declined the offer as a mark of protest against the behavior of police towards masses,” he said. He threatened that he will move to court if the government will not come clean on the issue. ¤¤mir faisal¤¤
