Kashmiris remain disconnected with Modi, party unlikely to open an account SRINAGAR, Dec 12: The BJP is unlikely to win even a single seat from 47 assembly constituencies of the Kashmir. The remaining seats of the Kashmir division go to polls on Dec 14. The party had, however, put in all the resources including its star campaigner in the campaigning. Leave the Muslim candidates that the party has put up, even the Kashmiri Pandits fielded by the party will not be able to garner even sizeable votes. They had wrongly invested in the Kashmir and were probably living in illusion, said a senior BJP leader, privy to the developments of the party in the Kashmir. The biggest set back for the party was the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-who is the star campaigner of the party- failed to connect with the people. The PMs rally in Srinagar, which was much hyped by the party and the media- could not evoke the desired response. Political observers believe that the PMs speech didnt have the punch to connect with the Kashmir. Modi didnt speak a word about Pakistan, which is an emotive issue of the Kashmiris- while the former PM Vajpayee used in a subtle manner and this helped him in not only connecting with the people but also earned him respect across the state, which no other leader could. BJP was banking on the Modi and with he himself not able to getting connected with the people, the fate of the party was sealed that day. And same was the case with the party president Amit Shah. They may have got some media coverage but thats all they have got, said the BJP leader, quoted above, not authorized to speak to the media. The BJPs biggest folly, according to observers, was that it could not relate to the problem of the Kashmiris- read Muslims. The leaders talked about development and then banked upon it solely. They didnt speak about the insecurities of the Kashmir and the partys roadmap to remove them and given them a sense of being a part of the mainstream, said the leader.
