Kate Ketcham and I have started talking about the idea of setting - TopicsExpress

Kate Ketcham and I have started talking about the idea of setting up a meeting with Don Benton to hear his views on environmental protection in Clark County. We would invite citizens who have questions for DB to join us in a Q&A (volunteers from Sierra Club, Friends of CC, Audubon, Watershed group, etc.) Please let us know what you think, and if you are interested in brainstorming both people who should be invited and questions we’d like Benton to answer. Here are a few (really rough draft) Qs Id like to hear Benton answer. What Qs would you like answered? • What are ALEC priorities for environmental regulations? How does that affect your priorities and planning for CC Environmental Services? • What are the top environmental resources you want protected? What are the steps needed to protect them? • Given that there is a multi-million dollar deficit for stormwater (following the lost court case), explain your recommendations for balancing the cost for storm water, capital improvements, water quality monitoring, public education and outreach, regulations and enforcement and storm water maintenance? Are fee increases a part of your recommendations? • In your opinion, what are baseline ecological resources? How do we protect them from new development? • Does ESD review developments to make sure that the five Critical Area Requirements are met? If there is environmental quality damage from a development, are there “teeth” to make the business cover the cost to offset the damage? Can you give examples of development that has caused environmental damage that has been required to offset that damage? • Do you plan to scale back on any services in the department? Increase any services? Eliminate any?
