Katharine Courtney Bryan Ed.D. passed faithfully into her Lord’s hands on October 26, 2013. Daughter of Velma and Lawton Bryan, Katharine was born February 28, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Carson-Newman University and later completed her doctoral degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Bryan’s career focused on educating others about her savior, Jesus Christ, and included affiliations with Tennessee Woman’s Missionary Union, the Southern Baptist Convention Woman’s Missionary Union, Texas Woman’s Missionary Union, Richland College in Dallas, TX, the Southern Baptist Convention Missions Education Council, Missions Digest magazine, Carson-Newman University and North Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union. Katharine is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Thomas Bryan. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Peggy M. Bryan, her nephew and his wife, Ralph T. Bryan and Carolyn K. Bryan, all of Sandia Park, New Mexico; her niece and her husband, Janice M. Longoria and Oscar N. Longoria of Dickinson, Texas; five great nephews and nieces and one great, great nephew. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that her memory be honored through donations to any of the following: the Woman’s Missionary Union Foundation, 100 Missionary Ridge, Birmingham, AL 35242 (please make checks payable to the WMU Foundation and in the memo field write: Katharine Bryan Scholarship); or to The Katharine C. Bryan Endowed Scholarship at Carson-Newman University, Advancement Office, Chris Cates, C-N Box 72032, Jefferson City, TN 37760 Memorial Service to be held at Central Baptist Church, Fountain City, 5364 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
