Kathua, January 26th:- The 66th Republic Day celebrated in Kathua with great zeal, fervour and gaiety, the main programme was held at Sports Stadium Kathua. District Development Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary hoisted the national flag and took salute at the parade. The contingents drawn from Police, CRPF, PTS Kathua, Forest Protection Force, NCC and tiny platoons of the government and private educational institutions besides pipers. Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary while speaking on the ocassion greeted people on 66th Republic Day. In his address DDC paid tribute to the soldiers who laid their life while protecting the citizens from internal and external anti national forces. Underscoring the contributions of the freedom fighters, DDC said that the hard fought independence is earned by their supreme sacrifices. He said it is the duty of every citizen to obey the fundamental duties enshrined under the constitution of India. He said democracy, religious freedom, gender equality and provision of the economic development and upliftment of deprived classes are the key features of our constitution. He said role of parliament, executive, judiciary and media is incorporated in the constitution to ensure all round welfare of every citizen. He said Indian constitution is well admired by the world and considered to be a well knitted constitution. He said fundamental rights are coupled with some fundamental duties and each citizen must make endeavour to abide it. Terming 2014 year as remarkable year for kathua district, DDC said that with the functioning of new administrative units comprising new Sub Divisions, Tehsils, Blocks and Niabats the distance will be bridgend for accessible governance and pace of development will take stride in coming times in these units. DDC said with the literacy rate of 74 %, the Kathua district is standing among the top three districts in the state which is matter of great pride for all. He said educational institutions were strengthened and at present the district have 37 higher secondary schools, 104 high schools, 380 middle schools, 907 primary schools. He appealed people to contribute and work with administration for making the Kathua on top in the educational literacy in the state. While throwing light on the health profile of the district DDC said a total of 240 health institutions are in place in which 5 Sub-Districts hospital, 24 PHC’s, 45 AYUSH centres and 126 Sub Centres to cater the healthcare needs of the people. DDC said as many as 131 habitations were connected with road network, further said the pace of road works will be further speed up to facilitate people with road connectivity. DDC also gave a brief account of achievements under various schemes of PHE, RDD, Social Welfare and ICDS Departments in the district. DDC said the district has witnessed both challenges and achievements during the 2014. He said during Parliamentary and Assembly Elections 2014 the district has achieved the unprecedented polling percentage. He said the floods and border migration due to firing and shelling by neighbouring country were the testing time for the people and administration as well. He said over 14000 people were migrated to the relief camps during the tense border situation. He appreciated the people for extending cooperation with administration during these testing times. Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary appealed elders to guide the young generation to inculcate the cultural and social values so they can become an asset for the society and state. He appealed women to nurture their wards with vigour and interest so that their pupils can attain good academics. The youth must channelize their energies so that they can contribute in the national development. The students of various Government/ Private Institutions presented colorful programme depicting national themes.Among others, SSP, Kathua, Pawan Parihar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, G Prasanna Ramaswamy, MLA Kathua Rajiv Jastrotia, MLA Basohli Ch. Lal Singh, Assistant Commissioner Anshul Garg, ACR Kathua S.P Rukwal, District Officers, Prominent citizens and large number of people and students were present on the occasionThe DDC also presented Trophies, certificates to the best performers, Citation awards were also presented on the occasion. He also gave away medals to the census staff.Similar functions were also held at Tehsil Headquarters throughout the district.At Basohli, SDM Gurmukh Singh hoisted the National flag at a tehsil Level function organized at Jawahar Navodhya Vidhayala Basohli and took salute at the march past. Colorful cultural programme depicting on patriotic songs was also presented on the occasion.At Bani, SDM M.A Banday hoisted the National tricolor at Government Girls High School, Bani. Colorful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion by the school children.At Hiranagar, SDM Sohan Lal unfurled the National flag at Mini Stadium, Hiranagar and took salute from the march past. Colorful cultural programme on patriotic theme were presented on the occasion by the school children.At Billawar, SDM, Rajehshwar Singh Charak hoisted the National flag at Tehsil level function at Government HSS, Billawar and took salute at the parade. Colorful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
