Katie Peterson and SUNY Geneseo beat Nazareth, play Roberts Thursday night in Wendys classic in Rochester, NY GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Shannon McGinnis scored a season-high 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the third-seeded Knights to a 62-55 win over sixth-seeded Nazareth in the first round of the Wendys College Classic, Tuesday night. In the first half, our offense was quite stagnant but our production picked up as the game went on once we started moving the ball and picking up the tempo, said head coach Scott Hemer. While we didnt shoot the ball well, we controlled the boards and did enough to put ourselves in a position to win in the end. After falling behind by five, 30-25, with 5:22 left to play in the first half, Geneseo went on a 10-2 run to take a 35-32 lead into halftime. The run was capped by a jumper from senior center Katie Peterson(Ithaca/Elmira Lady Express), who finished the game with six points and two rebounds. The Knights took an eight-point lead, 46-38, after sophomore guard Katie Durand hit a jump shot with 13:00 remaining in the second half. The Golden Flyers responded by going on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 50-50 with 4:54 on the clock. Geneseo regained the lead within seconds as McGinnis hit a jumper and made a free-throw to put the team up 53-50, as the Knights finished the game with a 9-5 run to come away with the victory. Junior guard Dana Cohan contributed 11 points and five assists while senior forward Lea Sobieraski added seven points and two steals. Geneseo advanced to the tournament semifinals and will play second-seeded Roberts Wesleyan, who defeated seventh-seeded RIT, 68-56. The teams will square off at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at RIT
