Of the 294 calls for service, here are some to share: Criminals will stop at nothing to try to trick elderly out of their hard earned money. This week an elderly person received a phone call from a person claiming to be calling from Medicare. Their ploy was that Medicare was going to be issuing new benefit cards. The first questions they asked included name and address. Then they wanted to know what the routing numbers on the bottom of a check were. If Medicare calls you they will already have all of the information they need. Please don’t tell anyone any personal information over the phone. These scams continue because people continue to give personal information and the scammers continue to make money. I have thought over and over about whether or not to include this next call in the column, but it is certainly an unusual call and that is what this is about usual and unusual calls. So, I have decided to include it with the facts only and a prefaces; if you are an extreme animal lover and can’t handle odd and gross, don’t read on. An officer was called to a local fuel station for a report of a dog’s head and collar next to a fuel pump. Upon arrival the officer found that the clerk had coned off the area and covered the head with a bag. The officer grimaced as he lifted the bag, not knowing what he was going to see. Much to his relief under the bag was not a dog’s head but the remains (head) of a skinned coyote. Ruby called to complain that a worn out station wagon was parked alongside the road running. The worn out station wagon was filled to the brim with odds and ends and its engine was roaring with exhaustion, ready to be retired. The owners were not ready to give up on the wagon just yet. They had big plans for a summer vacation across the country and were just looking for a good place to camp. Officers made some suggestions and the worn out wagon made its way to a campground. Malcolm was concerned that he had not been able to make contact with his sister, Sassy, in two weeks, he requested officers do a welfare check. When officers made contact with Sassy they learned the rest of the story. Sassy had made several arrangements with Malcolm for him to get his stuff out of her house. Each time she would wait for him and he would not show. She got sick of this and decided to just ignore him for a while. She agreed to send him a text message to let him know she was fine and arrange for him to stand her up again. Officers were called to a bag of “dust” that had been dropped on the highway. The assistance of a street sweeper was necessary to clean up the mess. Officers are looking for information in relations to a home burglary. A blond pit bull and about 30 movies were taken from the residence. If you have information that can help us return this dog and the movies to the owner, please call. Officer Katie Allart
