Of the 239 calls for service, here are some to share: Officers responded to a call of an unwanted guest, the resident was unsure how to get the suspect to leave. Upon arriving officers escorted Donald Duck from the house without incident. Apparently, he had overstayed his welcome inside the house. Officers hurried to the river when Ruby called to report a turtle was walking on the sidewalk. They were hopeful that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were coming to Belle Fourche to help fight crime. Upon arriving they found a lone turtle waddling along the sidewalk. That’s it, a turtle walking on the sidewalk, just as reported. I was attending training in Pierre and staying in a dorm room at the law enforcement academy. I knew that it was early in the morning but I couldn’t see the clock and I didn’t want to wake my roommate. So, I used modern technology and turned my cell phone on to see the time. When the screen lit up, indicating the phone had turned on, I could not see what time it was. Instead I saw a picture of a red emergency light flashing. Under the light were the words, “EMERGENCY 911.” My mind froze and I instinctually hung up the phone. The moment my finger touched the end call button I thought don’t hang up. It was too late; I became a 911 hang up caller. A moment later my phone rang and a sweet voice on the other end informed me that I had called 911 and asked if everything was ok. With a rush of embarrassment and in an attempt not to wake my roommate I answered the dispatcher’s questions. Before hanging up the phone she tells me, you know I have to tell the officers on duty. So, I lay in bed praying an officer doesn’t knock on the door. The prayers didn’t last long, before I knew it I heard a “knock, knock, knock.” Expecting to see a Pierre Police Officer, I open the door to a neatly dressed Highway Patrolman. Officer Katie Allart
