Katie update, post Ultrasound. That girl is a mess, a ticking time-bomb, it seems, and the bloat really kicked the timer into high gear. :( The vet showed us her multiple issues, including a liver shunt (an abnormal vein bypassing the liver, from portal vein to caudal vena cava, for those of you who might understand that), a 1.3 cm clot at the enlarged intersection, a slightly small liver and slightly enlarged kidneys, bile sludging (in her gall bladder) and stones in the urinary bladder too large to comfortably pass, and not breaking up on shaking (urinalysis is being done to help determine what material they might be). Well be discussing the implications and possible treatments with our regular vet, but we will not be operating on her. She would not likely survive an operation, and the only surgery to address the issues (shunt repair) have a bad risk/benefits balance for her. *sigh* Were thinking quality over quantity for her, now. We dont have any idea what that means yet, but we have more info, anyway. Shes passed out at the moment, after being very anxious the whole time she was conscious, and even after the procedure, when she was pretty druggy still. Poor mite! Shes lost more weight, too. Down to 50.9 lbs.
