Katrina Dietsche and Diego Mendoza, NDA freshmen, both earned $2500 scholarships at Saturdays state Optimist Club Oratorical Contest in Wausau. NDA has had winners in the past 12 or so years of competition, but this is the first time both the male and female competitors won in the same year. Thanks to the suggestion and inspiration of Green Bay Optimist Club member Mr. Ron Metzler, the Oratorical Contest has become a traditional speech unit for freshman English classes at NDA. Mr. Bill Dyer succeeded Mr. Metzler as coordinator of the Green Bay competition the last two years. Local Optimist Clubs sponsored Katrina and Diego at the Wausau competition.
