Kedah Gerakan Youth has proposed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) supreme council be made the topmost committee in the ruling coalition where each matter should be discussed and studied first before being tabled in Parliament. Its chief Tan Keng Liang said this should be implemented so that each BN parliamentarian could play a more effective role whenever a motion was tabled and debated in Parliament. “The time has come for this proposed approach be implemented so that the (BN) component party MPs would no be longer be disputing outside Parliament over a matter because of dissatisfaction, after it has been tabled,” he told reporters, here, yesterday. Tan said a clear example was over the amendments to the Prevention of Crime Act. On the suggestion by acting Gerakan president, Datuk Chang Ko Youn for the party president and deputy president posts not be contested to avoid disunity in the party, Tan said it was a good idea but democracy should not be curtailed.
