Keep watching… well be sharing more about how local citizens are SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER and BEING THE CHANGE in their community… You can follow this here on the Missy Crutchfield page and Gandhis Be Magazine bemagazine.org As the debate surrounding the Chattanooga Sound Ordinance continues… Jeff Styles on Talk Radio brings up some very concerning issues about a “Freeflowing fear and angst” amongst business owners and residents who oppose proposed Chattanooga Sound Ordinance but will not speak out publically for fear of retaliation… Jeff went on to read on-air an email sent out recently by Chattanooga Area CVB President and CEO Bob Doak (who is on Mayor Berke’s “Chattanooga Forward” Entertainment Task Force, and who is close friends with Jon Kinsey, and group) urging CVB members and others on the CVB’s email list to sign Track29 and Adam Kinsey’s petition to “Save Chattanooga’s Nightlife”— Dear Friends: This is an exciting time to be involved in promoting tourism, conventions and sporting events in Hamilton County. Last week, the state’s tourism board overwhelmingly embraced music as the core element of the Tennessee Brand. It serves as the common thread among the multiple regions of Tennessee. By building around music as the state’s tourism brand, Hamilton County’s existing and future iconic brands will be supported and integrated. In Chattanooga, we are in tune with the state’s focus, knowing that great cities have great music. Igniting our music scene means being a little edgy and extremely engaging for an audience that calls Chattanooga home. It also means being willing to consider flexible sound levels that are more realistic for entertainment venues. If you agree that it sounds like time to adjust the volume, click this LINK to fill out the online petition. Please click on this link to forward this email to your contact list. Thank you for your support of the tourism industry. Let’s continue to make sure that there is always something to do in Chattanooga. Bob Doak While Jeff agrees with the concept of an Entertainment District which has been discussed for years now, he does not agree with the premise of the Change.org “Save Chattanooga’s Nightlife” Petition that is being circulated by Adam Kinsey and friends, which is disingenious at best. Chattanooga’s nightlife is not under a threat of being shut down (as alluded to in the Change.org petition) because residents on the Southside would like the peace and privacy of sitting in the quiet of their living room or sleeping in the quiet of their bedroom just a few streets over. Jeff went on to share that there is a “Freeflowing fear and angst going around” of people who don’t necessarily go along with the feelings of the “Powers that Be” but they are afraid to speak publicly about it. This sense of fear that is being created goes so far as this: some people who have liked another person’s comment on Facebook (which was not necessarily postive about Track29 or their Change.org petition, or their handling of the sound ordinance debate) later received a call and were questioned… What has happened to Freedom and Democracy in Chattanooga, if business people and residents are threatened and fear retaliation if they disagree with the “Powers that Be”? What has happened to “Civil Discourse”? What has happened to “Freedom of Speech”? We must SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER… and work for FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY not just in other parts of the world like Israel and Palestine, and Egypt, but also right here at home in Chattanooga, Tenn… Together we can BE THE CHANGE… Peace + Love -Missy Crutchfield
