Yep in todays society that is a Hijabi apparently? How could they equate the likes of a modernist hijaabi with our sisters that cover properly according to what their creator demands for them? On a more deeper level, the contentions that we may have shouldnt be at the mundane level of a hijaab being put on wrong. If she wore khimaar and Abaya and still fell in love with this geeza would it make it alright?! If we look beyond the surface of the organza hijab, and more at what the director says regarding the movie being a cross cultural story, we find just from the trailer that it passes the idea of a Muslim woman finding no comfort, security or even meaning to her life; not amongst the people from her own land, neither finding her dream from amongst the believers themselves nor from the Deen. In the end she is happy to exchange her values from her precious Deen for the sake of the colonial hero that came to divide, conquer, pillage and plunder her beloved country in the first place. She is happy that the west consummates her and her Deen, and as a result of this, she is more than happy to adopt liberal values and the American way of life instead of what her creator determines for her from Islam. On that note, those people who are happy with this concept and see no problem with a bit of hijaabi rom-com then mate you might as well go to your Christmas party organised by your work place; wear a red santa outfit, take a shot of vodka with the lads, marry a mushrik, eat shoror mangsho (approach nearest bengali for translation) and follow Majid Nawazs madhab. This is what we do not want our children emulating in the west, east, south or north. Were happy to on agreeing to disagreeing rather than to mix the values of Islam like it is some vindaloo curry. Islam is a complete way of life, an ideology that does not oppress its women, but in fact granted them rights of political participation and judges, inheritance and ownership of assets, the same legal capacity as men in almost all obligation, and equal respect in reward and punishment - things that the Western nations could only ever dream of throughout its misogynistic and backward history. It took the suffragettes to sell their souls in order for women to simply vote, let alone to be considered worthy of men. And even in the current time, men still take up the most powerful and well paid positions in most of the industries. There is no progress with western values, and this is one of the reasons why they hope to superimpose it on Islam and the Muslims so we too become as backward as they are. We are proud of our Deen and the honour, blood and sweat it took to preserve, protect and propagate the creed to the world. We will never give this up.
