Keeping Shaytan out of your marriage and protecting your akhirah: Remember to say thank you to your husband - no matter how small an action its for - the groceries, paying the bills, getting you a cup of water, or the new clothes you or the kids are wearing if its coming from his account only, picking up a pizza, giving you time alone, remembering to buy paper towels... Reflection based upon this hadith: Then I (Shaytan) will come at them, from in front of them and behind them, from their right and from their left. You will not find most of them thankful.’ He (Allah) said, ‘Get out of it, reviled and driven out. As for those of them who follow you, I will fill up Hell with every one of you.’ (Surah Al-A’raf 17-18) Shaytan says those who follow him are people missing gratitude. To Allah ultimately - but we also know the following hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said as narrated by Abu Hurairah: “He who does not thank people, does not thank Allah” (Ahmad, Tirmidhi). He also said: “Whoever does you a favor, then reciprocate, and if you cannot find anything with which to reciprocate, then pray for him until you think that you have reciprocated him” Abu Dawood (1672). Often times people fall into a mentality that says Seriously.....thank him for buying paper towels? Yes...search for all the good your spouse does and recognize it. After all, isnt that what youd like him to see in you - all the good you do. Wouldnt you like to hear words of appreciation? Give it first, for even a cup of water is an immense blessings that Allah has sent you through the hands of your husband. A marriage can transform by focusing on such little things. Gratitude raises it to a new spiritually conscious level. wa Allahu Alim. -Wives of Jannah
