Keeping Wilshere on today could prove massive for Arsenal Posted on October 07, 2013 by Bob I don’t think I am going out on a limb by sating that Jack Wilshere had a poor half today against West Brom. Not many Arsenal fans would have complained if Arsene Wenger took him off at halftime, especially as he had been shown a yellow card at the end of the first half for a reckless challenge. Jack was struggling to make any impact on the game and was getting frustrated. But Wenger kept him on, kept him out wide and was rewarded with the equalising goal. So the manager was vindicated, but I don’t think that it all went according to plan or anything like that. I think Wenger thought that Jack needed to stick it out is all. If he had taken him off at the break or soon after, it could have been a blow to his confidence, but also it would have let him off the hook. You can’t glide through every game with deft touches and everything working perfectly. I call it the Aaron Ramsey approach: having a bad game? Tough keep going. Crowd on tour back? tough, keep going. How much better will Jack feel tonight having scored a great goal, one which took Arsenal to the top of the table. He nearly got an assist for a winner as well. He will still wake up tomorrow knowing that he needs to improve, but if he had come off after an hour, he would be feeling so much worse today. Hopefully he will turn up for England duty in a good frame of mind, help us qualify for the world cup, and come back ready to help Arsenal win the title. I have a feeling that today could prove to be a turning point of the season for Wilshere, and so for Arsenal as well.
