Keeps seeing this common uncomfortableness amongst a few people every time we see an African-American male gunned down by a police officer. You are aware that African-Americans get locked up on average at higher rates than their white counterparts for the same crimes? This data has been confirmed by multiple sources. Studies find that with drug offenses, which constitute around half of all federal charges, African Americans are detained and locked up more often than their white counterparts even though their rates of drug usage is similar. With New Yorks Stop and Frisk policy, nearly 90% of those who were stopped were either Black or Hispanic. You can infer what you want about this specific data set, but what you cant question is that there are numerous African American professionals out there that include lawyers, doctors, business men who routinely get stopped by the police and asked to provide identification. Do you think this happens to people who arent African American in this country? Sure, every once in awhile, but its not near as common. So when we discuss race, its important to at least acknowledge some major discrepancies out there and then rationalize and produce an argument. If your only argument is to simplistically say race card or well they are just thugs, then you need to educate yourself. Carry on…..
