Keiko The Untold Story of the Star of Free Willy is at the Cannes MIPTV with Ilyssa Goodman 7-10 April 2014 Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France On the heels of BLACKFISH and coinciding with the 20th Anniversary of the release of the hit film FREE WILLY, and with the support of the Free Willy-Keiko Foundation, and social media partners The Humane Society of the United States Hollywood Outreach Program and Heal the Bay, filmmaker Theresa Demarest brought Keiko, the world-famous orca, back to Hollywood with a WORLD PREMIERE screening of KEIKO THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE STAR OF FREE WILLY, the authoritative HD documentary of Keiko’s life and legacy, at the landmark Egyptian Theater this past August. Now this award winning documentary will be available to buyers throughout the world at this year’s MIPTV. Sales Agent Ilyssa Goodman will represent the film at the market April 7 -10, 2014. Keiko was an unlikely candidate for a successful release back into the wild because of his many years in captivity, his capture at a very young age, and his state of ill-health. During his rehabilitation process Keiko gained over 3000 pounds, became the largest package UPS ever delivered, and was finally airlifted back home to Iceland by an Air Force cargo plane – becoming the most well-travelled orca in the world. At the time of his death, Keiko was the second longest lived captive male orca in history, having been successfully rehabilitated and released back to his home waters, where he thrived for five years and swam with wild orcas. Through first-hand accounts by the marine mammal experts charged with his care, KEIKO THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE STAR OF FREE WILLY follows Keiko’s life journey from his capture at an early age to his extraordinary years in Iceland and Norway.
