Kelly: This was sent to us for you from Sgt. Al Affleck on behalf of the RCMP. To all residence of the Quad Counties: Mounties are not superheroes, we are human, but uniquely we have always believed we have two families. Our first family is our wives, husbands, children, brothers, sisters, grandchildren and parents. This family gives us the strength and courage to get up every day and go to work not knowing what the day will bring. They pray we get to come home safely at the end of the shift, and they support us when we feel no one else understands what we go through each day. Our second family is made up of the men and women who we work with every day, side by side to uphold the laws and protect the people of this great Country. This family has got our back no matter what the situation. They are the other police officers and employees of the RCMP. In this family we fight beside each other, we laugh with each other and yes we cry with each other. In this family we trust them with our lives. In this family we have a bond with that only we understand. You ask any Mountie why they became a police officer and they will tell you, Because they wanted to help people. We run toward danger when everyone else runs away. We counsel and console and we always try to maintain a professional demeanor in the face of tragedy. We remain calm when the world around us is in chaos. However, we are human, we feel pain when we get injured, and we suffer inside when we deal with other people’s tragedy. In times like this we deeply grieve the loss of our brothers in Red. We all hurt inside but because of whom we are and what we do we keep on going. However, last week our personal resolve was tested to the maximum by the loss of our family members in the line of duty. Individually we were weakened but we kept going because of the unbelievable support shown by you, the people we serve. You performed like any family member who saw one of their family suffering, hurting and grieving. You just wanted to help; you wanted to do something to help ease the pain and loss of our family members. Let me tell you did a fantastic job. During the last week every RCMP DETACHMENT in the quad counties received open demonstrations of your family support. You dropped off the cookies, cakes, red serge muffins, flowers, friend ship bracelets, personal drawings and yes donuts. Your kind gestures demonstrated through your personal cards, letters, texts, e-mails, flowers, gifts, handshakes, hugs, and your kind words of support were overwhelming and heartfelt by all of us. Your show of personal support bestowed on our officers and employees during this time of great personal loss has given us an overwhelming feeling of appreciation for what we do. Personal Comments like: Thanks for the hard work and dedication to the community. Thanks for just being there. Thank you and thinking of everyone and their families. Thank You for your dedication. Thank You. My Heros. These comments and the other personal gestures of humanity and support have solidified you the public as part of our third Family. On behalf of the RCMP THANK YOU the citizens of the quad counties for your support.
