Ken Cuccinelli hoped yesterday would turn out - TopicsExpress

Ken Cuccinelli hoped yesterday would turn out differently. Motivated by his decision to get back to his Tea Party roots and pumped for a big luncheon with national GOP superstar Marco Rubio, Cuccinelli and his campaign certainly thought Monday September 16th would be the day it all turned around. Instead, on the 50th day in the countdown to Election Day, Cuccinelli had one of the worst days of his campaign so far. Yesterday began with two damaging stories, including one from a leading conservative blogger, analyzing why his campaign is failing to connect with mainstream Virginians, and further negative coverage of his ongoing gifts scandal with Star Scientific and CEO Jonnie Williams. Cuccinelli’s awful day continued with the news that one major Republican leader, Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms, chose to endorse Terry McAuliffe over him, and another, Virginia Beach Sheriff Ken Stolle, is refusing to endorse him. Finally, the day concluded with the release of finance reports showing that Cuccinelli’s faltering campaign raised substantially less money than McAuliffe in the last period. Cuccinelli turned out the light last night with the knowledge that he faces a more than $2.5 million cash on hand deficit with fewer than 2 months until Election Day.
