Kennedy Festival Today! Book Signing from 12 to 5 PM Kennedy, Minnesota NEWS RELEASE June 10, 2014 Area Authors to Gather to Celebrate Kennedy Several authors from around the area will attend the Celebrate Kennedy festival, commemorating the small Northwestern Minnesota town’s 125th anniversary. On Saturday, June 28, these authors will be available to sign and sell books at various times between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the Community Garden or the Kennedy Center (if poor weather). The authors include— Marilyn Hagerty, columnist for the Grand Forks Herald, who will be at the festival from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. to sign her book, “Grand Forks: A History of American Dining in 128 Reviews.” The book, a collection of her Eatbeat columns, with a forward by television foodie Anthony Bourdain, captured the essence of rural dining and the hearts of readers nationwide, recently landing Hagerty on the “Today” show and “CBS Sunday Morning.” Jeanne Cooney, author of the quirky Hot Dish Heaven mystery series, which is set in the Red River Valley, will be on hand from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to sign “A Second Helping of Murder and Recipes,” the latest book in this series. Jeanne, who grew up in Hallock and now resides in Kennedy, found success with the first book, “Hot Dish Heaven: A Murder Mystery with Recipes,” when it hit No. 1 nationally last year on Amazon in the rural humor category. Henry Boucha, Warroad resident and author of “Henry Boucha, Ojibwa: Native American Olympian,” will be available to meet and greet festival goers from noon until 5:00 p.m. His new book focuses on the triumphs and tragedies that shaped him as an individual as well as a world-class athlete. Boucha was drafted by the Detroit Redwings in 1971 and was voted their Rookie of the Year. He played on the silver-medal Olympic team in 1972 and was voted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1995. Jill Johnson, who grew up in Stranquist and Karlstad, Minnesota, is the author of “Little Minnesota: A Nostalgic Look at Minnesota’s Smallest Towns.” Jill will be signing her very popular book from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The book, complete with pictures that beautifully complement the narrative, spotlights communities around the state with populations of no more than 100 and highlights some of the folks that make those towns the heart and soul of Minnesota. Kristin Eggerling, the author of “Breath of Wilderness,” will be at the celebration from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. to sign this newly released children’s book. It is the story of historic figure Sigurd Olson and his love for wild places, which inspired him to preserve wilderness throughout North America, including the Boundary Waters in Northeastern Minnesota. Eggerling, a part-time resident of Hallock, is a writer and community activist. These books are very different in content but all make for great reading and are wonderful gift ideas for the readers in your life. Visit cityofkennedy for more festival information.
