Kenny continues to struggle with his confidence. In order to rebuild it, it is necessary to go backward in his training. I went back to the beginning by targeting him in the cage through the cage bars with the door shut. You will see him struggle a bit to find the courage necessary to go toward the door. I have been watching his body language and paying close attention to his eyes in order to find out what it is that has him nervous. It is hard to detect, which makes it difficult to discover the breaking point without making things worse. So, Kenny is running the show, so to speak. It will be up to him to help me understand how to help him get past this stumbling block. As the old saying goes, One step forward, two steps back. As owners of these magnificent, intelligent creatures we need to be responsive to their needs, encouraging them to make breakthroughs in training, but being extremely careful not to push them too fast and too far. How long will this take? That will be up to Kenny. There is no way to place a timetable on this. We arent teaching him a trick, we are teaching him to trust. That is something that is earned and not a normal response to be expected. Take time with your bird in everything you do and dont rush. You have a lifetime ahead of you to enjoy with him. Make it count!
