Kent Stannard, who runs Tag for Life, describes as a disgrace an incident which took place in December, involving the WA Fisheries Department placing a catch and kill order on a tagged great white shark spending time in the Warnbro Sound. The organisation, which raises funds and assists scientists in tagging sharks and collecting information from monitoring them, believe the action could strain relationships with research bodies and Mr Stannard added The purpose around tagging is not to use that information to kill sharks, its to establish which areas are critical to their survival and to use that information to assist in public safety.
