Kent becomes six-time winner of university group accommodation award The University of Kent has been awarded Group Travel Organiser magazine’s ‘Best University Accommodation for Groups’ for the sixth year in succession. The award was presented to members of the University’s Conference, Reception and Housekeeping teams at a ceremony in London on 14 June. They received their award from BBC TV presenter Helen Skelton. The winners are voted for by group travel organisers who regularly use university accommodation. The University of Kent has more than 4000 bedrooms at its Canterbury campus that are currently used by group travel organisers. Kevin Stuckey, Residences and Conference Manager, was among those who collected the award. He said: ‘We are delighted to have won this award for the sixth year running. Continuous investment in our accommodation and a fair pricing policy are the main reasons for our year-on-year success in attracting groups to the University. However, this outstanding achievement is, first and foremost, a great credit to our dedicated staff, all of whom work hard to maintain our high standards and provide our guests with first class service, time after time. ‘We are also grateful to our regular clients who continue to enjoy our facilities and support us year after year.’ Among those to use the University’s accommodation recently were over 300 leisure and special interest groups from the UK, Europe and further afield; this included a large number of overseas groups (more than 2000 individuals) who were in the UK specifically for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games During the 2012 spring and summer vacation periods, the University hosted over 700 residential events and accommodated over 120,000 guests on its Canterbury Campus.
