Kerala, a small beautiful State of India, internationally known as Gods own country, naturally blessed with several small rivers, paddy fields, small mountains, valleys and lakes and beaches along with the most vulnerable materials of Thorium( the price of thorium is three times costly than pure Gold at present) is now going to become dark and dark by day by day. Additionally the people of kerala is considered as the most educated people in all fields especially engineering & medical by the international community . for eg. More than 35% of NASA scientists are Indians. And they have been spreaded all over the world at present. ln addition to the above, this small state to be considered as Land of Thorium because it has the deposit of 1/4 of worlds thorium that could be more than enough to provide the energy of electricity to the entire world for several thousands of years . But unfortunately this extreme beautiful State of Kerala is moving towards the stage of full darkness because of power shortage. (No electricity) No let us look into the reasons,why such a critical situation is created in kerala. This main reason is that this small state is still ruling by un- educated politicians that means the ministers of this state have not properly educated to deal with such type of problems what l was stated above. for eg. electricity minister of kerala at present is Ariyadan Mohamed. He deals with farms. The previous minimiser is Mr.A.K. Balan.He is an Lawyer, the above both of them having no proper science background that is why they are running behind Thermal Plant, those run by coal or naphtha or other petroleum based fuels, those things are not at all economically cheap for the production of electricity .And those things creates a great dangerous environment problems for the people as well as nature.Even the people those who belong to advisory committee of this ministers having almost the same educational background. If we ask them ( above stated people)what is energy ,electricity, nuclear energy or nuclear plant, no doubt they would answer that those things are available in super market Dont blame them because they have no idea about those things and they are not at all capable to solve the problem like Power Shortage.As per my advice, electricity minister should have at least a degree in engineering or science to understand basic terms of physics that explain energy, nuclear etc. Then only the above stated most critical problem of power shortage would be solved by them.As a nuclear physicist, once l humbly requested to the people of kerala to adopt nuclear reactor to slove the most critical problem of kerala,that is power shortage, that l done through a T.V programme of Karali people tv( Technique Today) in august 2009 where l explained my people more clearly about the benefits of nuclear energy and its advantages over other types of existing energy ( electricity) producing systems,along with its least price cost for production of electricity while comparing with other energy sources.But the results was extremely zero.Any way once again l try to explain the same thing though face book and l earnestly requesting to my own people of kerala to consider my humble request to adopt a nuclear power station for eliminating the most critical problem of power shortage from our land. As we all know that electricity is back bone of everything that includes industrial development,infrastructure development of our state even everything those related to our daily life needs. Now let us look into nuclear energy and its benefits, advantages, safety features including its price cost while comparing it with other energy sources. As we all know that present scientific world has unanimously considered nuclear technology is the only cheapest, safest energy source so far available for the production of electricity. Its advantages and safety features are available in several medias . Anyway l would like to write a short explanation about nuclear power technology here below. Nuclear energy releases when the atoms of fissile materials of U233/ U233 / Pu239/Pu241 undergo a chain reaction with a neuron source, that releases surplus amount heat energy than any other existing energy sources,for.A fission process with any of atom of the above materials provides thermal energy approximately around 60,000,000 times as much as when a carbon atom burn.for eg.8 kwh heat can be liberated from 1 kg. of coal, 12kwh from 1kg.of oil, around 24,000,000 kwh from 1kg.of any of the above said fissile materials, ie.1.kg.of U235/U233/Pu239/Pu241 would liberates as much as energy as 1,500,000 kg. of coal. In a nuclear reactor, fission of 1grm of any of the above materials liberate about 1 MW/day that is equivalent of 3 tone of coal or about 600 gallons of oils/day, and those liberate approximately 1/4 tone of carbon dioxide during combustion as a free bonus. So the above facts clearly prove that nuclear is reliable & relatively cheap with average cost less than 2 cent, that is the least cost than coal or oil. Additionally nuclear plant usually take over a small area whereas to built equivalent of 1000 MWe solar park would be larger than 35000 acres, a wind farm would be at least 150,000 acres, but at the same time two or three nuclear power plants with the total capacity of 2000 MWe. hardly require less than 400 acres. If it is a thorium based MSR,it takes 1/10 of the space need for a nuclear reactor, even a small ship is more than enough to accommodate everything of LFTR. Unfortunately we are at present in the experimental stage with this reactor. More over, nuclear energy is the world largest source of emission free energy that means it will not produce any air pollutants such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, green house gases those threaten our atmosphere by causing ground level ozone formation, smog, acid rain and global warming . nuclear always keep the air clean, preserve the earth climate in a natural condition. And it preserves water quality & aquatic life that means water discharged from nuclear reactor contains no harmful pollutants & meets regulatory standard for temperature designed to protect aquatic life because water used for cooling the core system never come to contact with radioactive materials and the secondary circuit cooling water from river or lake will be cooled before it discharged to its sources as it either mixed with water in a cooling pond or pumped through a cooling tower that protects aquatic life. Nuclear reactor refuelling will be done after long period (540 days or more), in some type of reactors and in some type of reactors, Online fuelling is possible, for. eg . indian built advanced heavy water nuclear reactor and liquid fluoride thorium reactor etc. So nuclear energy is so clean, safe, reliable, compact, practically inexhaustible, economically so cheap and it provides least amount of waste that can be carefully contained, packaged and safely stored or send it to sun by rocket mission According to my opinion, people of kerala have to adopt an indian built advanced heavy water nuclear reactor that is considered as most safety providing water based nuclear reactor system in this world because it is the best and considered as the top one among all other water based nuclear reactors developed by any nation in this world, that is on the basis of safety features. And its safety features never allow this reactor to fall into any accidents, especially into a stage of core melt down that never happen in any condition with this reactor, for that I can give 100 % guarantee to anyone at any time .As we all know that nuclear reactor is a device that can supply surplus amount of heat energy which is used to produce large amount of electricity for development of our nation as well as the daily needs of our civilization for several thousands of years. All water based nuclear reactor system except indian built advanced heavy water nuclear reactor, use either pumps or pressure providing items in the primary coolant circuit to circulate reactor coolant through core system to transport the thermal energy of fission to steam generators whereas indian built advanced heavy water nuclear reactor has no such type pumps or pressure providing items in primary coolant circuit. And it is done by natural circulation by gravitational force. So major problem of pump failure is totally eliminated that means AHWR removes heat from the reactor system through natural circulation (convection) of the coolant under both normal working condition as well as shut down condition that eliminates the need of above said pumps, driven by electrical power that we can see in most other nuclear reactors designs.A short explanation of advantages and safety features of AHWR are given below.AHWR is a 300 MWe, vertical pressure tube type,boiling water cooled & heavy water (low pressured) moderated nuclear reactor. It has a number of passive safety features and its design advantages both reduce it capital cost & operation cost. AHWR uses natural circulation for cooling the reactor core under normal working and shut down condition that eliminates the need of pumps in the primary circuit. All event scenarios initiating from no availability of main pumps are therefore excluded. Regarding its safety features, 1, it provides slightly negative void coefficient of reactivity. 2, A large heat sink in the form of gravity driven water pool with an inventory of 8000m3 of water resource located near to the top of the reactor building that can provide emergency cooling to the core of this reactor. 3, Removal of heat from the core by natural circulation of coolant (boiling water).4, injection of cooling water by Emergency core cooling system directly inside fuel cluster. 5, it has two independent shut down systems. 6, passive poison injection directly into the moderator in the event of non availability of both shut down systems due to wired system failure. 7, passive decay heat removal through ICs possible.8, Replacement of traditional steam generators with simpler steam drums and it has 4 steam drums that generate powerful steam for turbine- generator and its steam pressure is much higher than any other water based conventional nuclear plants. 9, it uses 19.75% of enriched medium with uranium 233/ Pu239 along with natural thorium. 10, Online fuelling is possible. 11, it designed with 100 years life time for this reactor. The remaining important details are attached with the pictures of this reactor, including the diagram of reactor design, safety systems design that all would be available in the picture gallery. Finally l advice the people of my motherland ( Kerala) to adopt nuclear technology by acquiring the most safety providing nuclear reactor( AHWR),that was developed by our nuclear scientists in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre which is 1000 times better than Russian made VVER -1000 which is operating at present at kudankulam, Tamil Nadu, that is stated on the basis of quality and safety features.No need to fear of this reactor. This is number one according to my opinion. If our ministers have any doubts of this reactor system please go to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre at Trombay and see our own malayali scientists .No doubt, they advice you better than me . Additionally you people understand one thing that india already built 15 or more reactors and those reactors are still running without any major problems. I know my own people are most afraid of nuclear reactor because they dont know much about this system. Iam not at all blaming any ministers or anyone.pls meet some scientists in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. They will guide you in this matter. This my last advice to save my own people from the most critical problem of power shortage what we keraliate are facing at present. Since l am belong to BJP and also love my motherland too much, this much only l can do for my own people of kerala. Jai Hind
