Kerala aims at free treatment to cancer patients The Kerala Government is aiming to provide free treatment to every cancer patient in the state, for the first time ever in India. An official press release today said ‘As a first step for this, the Government inaugurated a project ‘Sukrutham.’ Under this project, free cancer treatment will be made available at Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cancer Centre, Government Medical Colleges at Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode and Ernakulam district hospitals. With this scheme, about 50% of the population in the state will be benefitted. From the second phase it is aimed to provide free cancer treatment to all. The Government is also planning to provide free education to all cancer affected children in the state. A portion of the amount collected from the increased taxes of liquor and cigarette will be kept aside for the Sukrutham project.
