Kerbal space program update Noting the probes around earth and the mun were giving me a low but steady stream of income from the transmit science contracts that pop up from time to time I decided to increase the profitability of my space program by establishing a Base on the surface of the Mun. This would allow me to complete the more profitable tenders from firms wishing to plant a flag on the surface of the planet and because I wanted to be able to explore the Mun using the base as a staging ground I added a Lunar Rover to the payload. Boarding a rocket usually reserved for interplanetary travel Jebadiah entered the command seat and got ready for launch, The expensive space vehicle would usually be out of place for a mere earth to moon mission but the combined payload of the landing stage, a lunar rover and the large Capula command module, designed as a long term home; necessitated its use. After a good launch the payload was captured within the Muns equatorial orbit I Lowered the ships altitude to 9000 meters and looked for a good place to land and establish a base. What I was looking for was flat even ground ideally within close distance of many of the Muns active biomes so that the Lunar Rover and its attached scientific equipment could be put to good use. Orbiting eastward over the northern slope of what I would later learn from soil samples was the Muns East Crater Jeb spotted an anomaly, a massive stone arch. I decided to scrap my earlier plans and investigate, FOR SCIENCE!! Marking where the ship passed the arch Jeb orbited the Mun once more lowered the landing gear and prepared for descent. Unfortunately due to my own lack of patience and the final stage lander being quite heavy with a low specific impulse the base landed a fair distance away from the arch, about 3 kilometers but thankfully the rover arrived and detached in one piece. It was more than able to cover the distance with a few minutes of driving. As a test vehicle it was serviceable, although it did have trouble keeping traction in such low gravity and it had trouble with some of the less forgiving climbs. The beginning of a long excursion for Jeb, his relief should arrive in the coming year once the first building phase of a planned lunar refueling station begin.
