Kerry and I spent a few days at the Lake of the Ozarks; our first - TopicsExpress

Kerry and I spent a few days at the Lake of the Ozarks; our first visit there in 9 years. Not surprisingly, we noticed many changes. There are bunches of new condo’s built right before the 2009 real estate crash. There is a fancy new $1MM+ winery, restaurant, and event center called “Seven Hills Winery” off of “Y Road” in the Linn Creek area. We stopped and talked with the owner and bought a few bottles. They cleared a lot of woods, and starting planting grapes 8 years ago, and then built the 200 seat restaurant 5 years ago. Looked like 40+ acres of vineyards, with lots of hanging grapes, and water lines everywhere. It’s pretty remote, but they seem to be doing well. The Missouri highway department built a new divided Highway 54 that bypasses Osage Beach, the Mall, Walmart, etc. You drive around all that previous congestion. The old road is now called the “Osage Beach Parkway” and “Business 54”. In general that area seems to be doing well, with a lot of new buildings, restaurants, etc. We did a little shopping at the outlet mall; and it is pretty much the same. Maybe a few more luxury stores – Coach, Polo, etc. Mall wasn’t very busy on a Thursday afternoon. One night we ate dinner at Tan-Tar-A, which is also pretty much the same, and well maintained. They’ve added more new condos on one side. We walked down to their boat dock, and they still have the hungry carp that come up and beg for fish pellets. The marina there is huge. Saw a lot of big Cigarette boats on the lake, and numerous jet-skis. One afternoon we took both dogs on a hike in the State Park. Since most kids are back in school, no place was really crowded. A nice weekend, and it reminded me of all the good times we had there in prior years.
