Keshi named as 24th best coach in the world as NFF seeks £7.6m for Brazil 2014 Fifa World Cup SUPER Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi has been named as the 24th best national team manager on the world by the Institute of Football Coaching and Statistics in its latest survey of sweat merchants. In the latest survey, which is likely to be the last one before the World Cup in the summer, Keshi tops the list of African coaches. Highly rated for becoming the first Nigerian indigenous coach to win the African Nations Cup, Keshi is followed by Ghanaian head coach Kwesi Appiah in 42nd position, who handles the Black Stars and will be leading them to Brazil 2014. Spanish national team coach Vincente Del Bosque topped the list with 25,188 points followed by Germanys Joachim Low with 21,422 points. Oscar Tabarez of Uruguay was listed in third place, while Italys Ceasre Prandelli came fourth, former Netherlands coach Van Marwijk was fifth, Jurgen Klinsmann of the US sixth and Poalo Jorge Gomes of Portugal seventh. Keshi created history last year by becoming the first Nigerian to win the African Nations Cup as a captain and a manager as he was the teams skipper in 1994 when the Eagles lifted the trophy in Tunisia. He now has his eyes set on being the first coach to get the team to at least the World Cup quarter finals in Brazil this year. As part of the World Cup preparations, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) presented its budget of N2.08bn (£7.6m) to the House of Representatives Committee on Sports. NFF secretary general Musa Ahmadu, who presented the bill, told the House that the money was needed to enable the Super Eagles represent not only the country well but the African continent too. He added that the budget will cover the payment of the Super Eagles’ players and officials’ allowances, winning bonuses up to the quarter-finals stage, accommodation and other sundry expenditure. According to Mr Amadu, the players will be paid a $10,000 match-winning bonus during the group stages of the World Cup and this will rise to $12,500 and $15,000 if they qualify for the round of sixteen and the quarter-finals stage respectively. Keshi for his part will get paid a $20,000 winning bonus during the group stages, while his three assistants will receive $15,000 each. At the end of the qualifying rounds, Keshi’s winning bonus will rise to $22,500 and $25,000 if the Eagles qualifies for the round of 16 and quarter-finals stage respectively, while his three assistants winning bonus as well as other team officials will also enjoy a 25% in their bonuses. Mr Ahmadu said: “With the budget we have this year, we expect to surpass our performance last year. Everybody knows that we went to the African Nations Cup last year, where nobody gave us a chance but by the grace of God and the support of government, we won the cup. We also won the U17 World Cup for the fourth unprecedented time in the United Arab Emirates and the Super Eagles also qualified for the Fifa World Cup in Brazil for the fifth time. Nigeria has also played top quality international friendly matches.” In the run-up to the World Cup, Nigeria has already arranged a series of friendlies against Scotland, Greece and the USA on May 28, June 3 and June 7 respectively. After playing Scotland at Fulhams Craven Cottage ground in London on May 28, the Eagles will fly out to Philadelphia on May 29 where they will play Greece on June 3 and then proceed to Jacksonville, Florida where they will face the US on June 7. - See more at: nigerianwatch/news/4063-keshi-named-as-24th-best-coach-in-the-world-as-nff-seeks-p76m-for-world-cup#sthash.P9phPOef.dpuf
