Kevin Spacey says that the competition and diversity for new shows has made this a golden age for TV. Ten years ago I watched film shift into a direction where complicated, character-driven stories meant less and less. It became about huge expensive special-effects movies. Over the last decade, cable is where the best actors, writers and directors have gone to do character-driven stories. When you ask friends What did you do this weekend? someone will say I stayed at home and watched three seasons of Breaking Bad or two seasons of Game of Thrones. we set out to prove film and TV can learn the lesson the music industry didnt. Give people what they want, when they want it, in the form they want it, at a reasonable price...and they wont steal it.
