Key decisions from today’s Council meeting Your Christchurch City Council met today and the key decisions include: The historic Mona Vale Homestead in Riccarton and the Gaiety Hall in Akaroa will both be repaired and strengthened to 67 per cent of the New Building Standard. What a powerful and heartfelt deputation from the Akaroa group, Friends of the Gaiety (FrOGS). We must have community facilities open and being used ASAP. Heritage Incentive Grants were approved for 25 New Regent Street ($2,952), 98-100 Chester Street East ($132,800) and The Malthouse at 69-71 Colombo Street ($20,000). Both grants are subject to conditions. Your Council approved a recommendation from a Road Safety Audit report and Legal Review on the Noble Village Subdivision to engage an independent consultant to determine the necessary measures to mitigate or reduce the safety issues identified. Your Council approved a recommendation to transfer the decision-making authority for the installation of wastewater systems in some earthquake damaged areas of the city to the Earthquake Recovery Committee of the Whole. Your Council approved a non-smoking policy for new, remodelled or redecorated Council-owned social housing units. Your Council resolved for the Mayor to undertake consultation on the flying of flags from the Civic Office on Waitangi Day. She will consult with the six rūnanga and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu to identify options for sequencing the use of different flags from 2015 to symbolise the intent of Christchurch City Council to a Treaty based relationship, and recognising the diversity within the local rūnanga. Your Council agreed to delegate the signing of the Rockefeller Foundation 100 Resilient Cities Initiative grant agreement to the Council’s Earthquake Recovery Committee. In accepting the grant from the Rockefeller Foundation Christchurch becomes a member of the Rockefeller Foundation 100 Resilient Cities network. We will have a project manager, paid for by the Rockerfeller Foundation, who will oversee the resilient city development inChristchurch. This is an amazing and exciting project, and well done to mayor Lianne Dalziel and staff for putting the wining submission together. Your Council approved a submission to be made to the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment on its consultation document “A Regulatory Framework for Community Housing Providers. Our housing committee is focused on this issue as well as all housing issues (affordable and social).
