Keyano Huskies Women’s Soccer Tough Test to Start Season 09/06/2013 – Keyano Huskies women’s soccer program will be adding two players with Canadian Interuniversity Sports experience in confidence that they may improve last year’s nine losses one tie record. “We have added striker Jordan Brass who has experienced with St Francis Xavier and Ashleigh Bellefontaine who played four years at St Mary’s University. They give us more depth and make us a bit more solid,” said Huskies second-year head coach Mike Hull. Also returning to the Huskies is striker Jamie Hannigan after a one-year hiatus, having scored four goals in 2011 and two goals in 2010. Goalie Rebecca Rice is also back wearing Huskies colours after a one-year hiatus. “Having Rebecca back gives us two strong starting goalies and when one is not in goal the other will be playing out at mid.” Hull will also look to rookie Danielle Sweetapple to add spark to this year’s squad. A squad which is, “Stronger defensively and we are tighter and more consistent in that we move the ball around. We are going to also go with a different system this year that allows us to play a strong defensive game but also generates strong offensive chances.” Saturday Sept 7, 2013 vs. Grant MacEwan Griffins at 2 p.m. at JP Bowl in Edmonton Of the 12 teams competing in ACAC women’s soccer last year only one finished with a .500 record and that was the Grant MacEwan Griffins at 5-5 with 19 goals for and 20 against.
